A woman was seriously injured when the stairs she was using to reach a second-floor porch gave way in the Austin neighborhood Tuesday night.
The collapse happened in the 5500 block of West Quincy Street about 6:15 p.m.
She was about 15 feet off the ground when the stairs failed and she fell to a concrete pad below, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
The woman, whose age wasn’t available, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
The city’s buildings department will inspect the construction of the porch on Wednesday, Langford said.
