The La Grange Public Library Board has appointed a new board member.

Angie Larson will replace Celeste Pearson, who resigned to pursue a career opportunity, said Jeannie Dilger, executive director.

She said Larson had applied for and had been interviewed to fill a vacancy last year when another board member, Reid Carlberg, moved to Denver.

She was not selected at that time, but Dilger said Larson has since been very involved in library activities including serving as a community representative on the library’s strategic planning committee, and participating in the June 2016 planning retreat that helped come up with the strategic plan.

“I am an avid user of the library and feel I could contribute to the board and give back to something about which I feel so strongly,” Larson said in her application. “I believe I have the critical thinking skills and ability to work well with others that would be beneficial to the board.”

Board President Suzanne Stegeman said that with Larson’s appointment and the election of three new candidates on April 4, the library board will have filled all vacancies.

Board members represent the community and its library needs, represent the library to the general public, help hire and evaluate the library director, create a long-range plan for the library, oversee library funds and approve the annual budget, support the staff and director in carrying out library programs, and attend monthly meetings and occasional committee meetings.
