A man died Friday after his vehicle went into a Homewood pond, officials said.
About 9 a.m., officers responded to a report of a car in the water at Dolphin Lake at 183rd Street and Governor’s Highway. Two Homewood police officers and Homewood firefighters were able to reach and remove the driver from the vehicle.
He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There were no other occupants.
The vehicle was traveling north on Governor’s Highway from 183rd Street when it veered northwest off the roadway and into the water. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have had a medical emergency.
The crash is still under investigation. The man is not being identified pending notification of the family.
This is a developing story. Information will be released as it becomes available.
