A Chicago man targeted, but not struck, by a shooting earlier this month in Montgomery has been charged in connection with drugs allegedly found on him at the scene, according to police.
At about 6:59 p.m. March 14, officers responded to the 800 block of Victoria Drive for a call of shots fired, according to a news release sent by Montgomery Police Chief Daniel Meyers.
Initially, the 20-year-old man reportedly shot at gave officers a false name and two forged documents using the pseudonym, according to police.
When the man was speaking with detectives, they learned he had lied about his identity, and he has since been identified as Lavonte T. Willingham, 20, of the 1700 block of Linder Avenue, Chicago, according to police.
After Willingham gave officers at the scene consent to search him, they discovered a small baggie containing a white powdery substance, police said in the news release. Police did not say whether the substance was field tested, and Meyers did not return phone messages seeking further information Monday. The news release did not mention anything further about what happened or include any suspect information.
Subsequently, Willingham was charged with two counts of issuing or delivering a forged document, both class 3 felonies; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony; and obstructing identification, a class A misdemeanor, according to Kane County court records.
Willingham is listed in custody at the Kane County Jail, with total bail for all charges set at $20,000. He is next to appear 9 a.m. March 31 before Judge James C. Hallock in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles, according to jail and court records.
