An Aurora man already in state prison has been indicted on new felony charges, including attempted murder, stemming from a March 2015 shooting.

Anibal Ramos, 20, formerly of the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue, Aurora, but currently listed in custody at the East Moline Correctional Center, was indicted by a Kane County grand jury this month on charges of attempted first-degree murder, a class X felony; aggravated discharge of a firearm, a class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member, a class 2 felony; and unlawful possession of a firearm without a FOID card, a class 3 felony.

Ramos is accused of firing multiple shots from a 9mm handgun at a white sedan as it traveled north on South LaSalle Street near Bluff Street just before 1 a.m. March 1, 2015.

Following his indictment, a judge set bail for Ramos at $500,000, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Ramos, if convicted of the most serious offense, faces a minimum sentence of 26 years in prison, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

No initial court date has been set.

Ramos is currently in prison for possessing a firearm as a gang member. His sentence of three years and six months in prison has a projected parole date of April 14 and projected discharge date of April 16, 2019, according to prison records.
