A Cape Coral, Fla., man has been charged for unlawful entry of vehicles after being released from Porter County the same day for the same charges, according to Highland police.
Highland Police Commander Ralph Potesta said Thursday a Highland resident called police around 9:30 p.m. Jan. 13 to report an unfamiliar vehicle parked in the 9500 block of Manor Drive. Police arrived and found the vehicle a few streets away with a woman asleep in the front seat, police said.
As officers questioned the woman, a man, identified as Tyler Parkton, 21, walked up to the vehicle, according to a report. They started talking with him when phone calls started coming in reporting car break-ins in the area, Potesta said.
Parkton told officers he’d just been released from Porter County Jail for the same charges, Potesta said. Officers found a small amount of marijuana and another controlled substance in the car as well, a report said.
The woman was released, but Parkton was charged with two counts of felony theft, one count of felony possession of narcotics; two counts of misdemeanor theft; five counts of unauthorized entry to vehicle; two counts of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance; and one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.
He was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail, Potesta said.
