The Western Springs Police Department is investigating four residential burglaries in the village during the past two months.

Two burglaries occurred Jan. 18. One was in the 4500 block of Clausen Avenue and the other was in the 4600 block of Lawn Avenue. Two took place Dec. 29, both in the 4000 block of Wolf Road, said Shaun O’Connor, administrative services coordinator for the Police Department.

In all of the burglaries, forced entry was made into the unoccupied houses through doors. The burglaries in December occurred between 9:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. The ones in January took place between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jewelry, gift cards and cash were taken from the houses, according to a news release.

O’Connor said no connection has been made between the Jan. 18 burglaries in Western Springs and a break-in in Indian Head Park later that day, in which a girl was cut by a masked intruder.

“There is no evidence to suggest at this time that there are any links between our residential burglaries and the Indian Head Park case,” O’Connor said. “Indian Head Park is still investigating.”

Police are urging residents to keep an eye out for anything that seems out of the ordinary in their neighborhoods. Police said a common tactic that burglars use is to knock on the front door to see if anyone answers. If someone answers, police said the suspect will typically ask for someone that does not live there, and/or come up with an excuse for what they are doing there.

Police urge residents to develop a relationship with neighbors so they can watch each other’s homes while they are away. The village also has a Neighborhood Watch Program to which residents can report suspicious activity. Anyone who has information or notices unusual activity is asked to call O’Connor at 708-246-1800, Ext. 154.
