The La Grange Fire Department extinguished a fire Tuesday that destroyed a garage at 75 Malden St.

Firefighters responded at 12:01 a.m. to the fire that engulfed the two-car garage and impinged on a second, two-car garage at 76 Dover St.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is still under investigation, said fire Chief Don Gay.

The Malden Street garage and two vehicles inside it were a total loss. The garage and vehicle inside it on Dover Street sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. In addition, garages at 79 Malden, 74 Dover and the rear fence at 73 Malden were damaged due to the heat.

A few houses in the vicinity also lost power due to the fire.

“There was a loss of power to a couple of houses. ComEd was there last night to restore it,” said Lt. Jeff Behland of the La Grange Fire Department.

Fire departments from McCook, Western Springs, Brookfield, Pleasantview, La Grange Park and Lyons assisted.
