Former Oak Parker John Sorensen, 45, who now lives in Washington, D.C., and was back to visit family, answered a few questions Nov. 27 for the Oak Leaves at Ridgeland Common’s Paul Hruby Ice Arena.

Q: Occupation?

A: I’m a documentary producer for Grace Creek Media. I do stuff for PBS and nonprofits. I used to work for Towers Productions in Chicago.

Q: What do you enjoy about that type of work?

A: I’m always learning something new, meeting new people and problem-solving. I just did a piece in Israel, talking about religion, faith and how it affects politics.

Q: How do you like D.C.?

A: We like that you’re really close to nature; it’s easy to get to the mountains. Everybody is from somewhere else, and there are lots of very interesting people. … But we love Chicago. We miss living here.

Q: Any particular stops while you’re back in town?

A: We’re back home for the holiday. It’s just a beautiful city. We mostly went downtown and to Logan Square. We went to a place called Billy Sunday. The other night we went to Exit Strategy in Forest Park, which was great.

Q: Charity of choice?

A: We were just talking about supporting Planned Parenthood.

Q: Words you live by?

A: Patience and practice.

Q: Travel destination of choice?

A: I used to live in Japan, and I want to go back. But if my wife were here, I’d say the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. Apparently we have to go there before I go back to Japan, which would be lovely.
