With a string of holiday lights as a necklace, Maureen Schlak of Lombard was in a festive mood as she worked recently as a student assistant on the north campus of Lyons Township High School District 204.

Q: How long have you been a student assistant?

A: Four years

Q: What does a student assistant do?

A: We monitor the hallways and work the front desk. We’re here for the safety of the building.

Q: What do you enjoy about your work?

A: I love the students. It keeps you young to be around young people.

Q: Are you married?

A: Yes. My husband’s name is Steven. We have two grown children and three grandchildren. I should say three, adorable grandchildren.

Q: What’s your favorite movie?

A: I have two favorites. It’s a split between “Gone with the Wind” and “Steel Magnolias.”

Q: What’s your favorite food?

A: I love barbecue ribs and corn on the cob.

Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?

A: I’d love to be able to fly because then I could be anywhere I wanted quicker.

Q: What’s your favorite color?

A: Red

Q: What’s your favorite holiday?

A: Christmas

Q: Where are you going on your next vacation?

A: I’m going to my nephew’s wedding in Big Bear in California.
