Anthony “Spice” Adams may have left the Bears more than five years ago now, but he’s still doing good for the city of Chicago.

As a part of PSCU’s Credit Union Magic Minute, the former Bears defensive tackle was given 60 seconds to grab all of the presents and merchandise organized in a warehouse that he could for his haul.

“It went by so fast,” he said. “In my head I thought I was moving and they said ’45 seconds’ and I thought I had 45 seconds left, but that had already passed.”

Adams donated all his merchandise to the Chicago charity SOS Children’s Villages Illinois. All 17 of the gifts he grabbed, from an Xbox to big-screen TVs, will be donated to the organization, which specializes in housing foster children with a history of suffering from abuse, abandonment and neglect.

“SOS is present in 134 countries and has been doing this for 25 years, so I thought this was the perfect time and the perfect charity,” Adams said.

Adams had 30 minutes beforehand to map out what he wanted to grab for his 60-second haul and decided to focus on big-ticket items.

“That minute goes by so fast but I made sure I got a 40-inch TV, a 25-inch TV, an Xbox,” he said. “What’s so frustrating is you want to get everything you can for these kids, that’s all that was in my mind.”

Though he hasn’t played for the Bears since 2011, Adams still calls Chicago his home.

“I’ve been here going on 10 years now; my kids were all born here,” he said. “The Chicago community has been so good to me and it would be a disservice if I didn’t give back to the community.”
