After serving nine years on Schererville’s Town Council, Lake County Commissioner-elect Jerry Tippy will be transitioning to the county level. Tippy recently defeated incumbent Lake County Commissioner Gerry Scheub in the 2nd District commissioner race.

The county’s Republican Party is preparing to fill Tippy’s seat on the Schererville Town Council.

Lake County Republican Party Chairman Daniel Dernulc, of Highland, said the party will have 30 days to hold a caucus to find Tippy’s replacement after formally receiving Tippy’s letter of resignation.

Dernulc, a Lake County councilman, said that after he calls a caucus, those interested in the Town Council seat will have 72 hours to file their paperwork.

“If it’s all done right, they will be put into nominations, get to state their case in five minutes and whoever receives the most votes will be the winner,” Dernulc said.

Tippy said he’s still “winding down from the campaign” but said his resignation will be effective Dec. 31. Tippy added that he recently began familiarizing himself with some of the issues that are taking place on the county level and the procedures in the commissioner’s office.
