The annual Veterans Day ceremony in Lake Bluff offered attendees a trip back in time.

The event featured a reading from the 1918 diary of Cathy McKechney’s uncle that recounted his impression of the first Armistice Day. McKechney is president of the Lake Bluff History Museum.

“They just discovered the diary,” said Tom Tincher, member of American Legion Post 510 and an organizer of the ceremony.

Boy Scout Troop 42 conducted the flag ceremony, the Lake Forest High School Band played, a student from Lake Bluff Middle School read the Gettysburg Address and Marine Air Control Group rifle squad performed a salute.
