A solemn Veteran’s Day ceremony honored and paid homage to veterans.
American Legion Post 1941 held the ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday at the Robert E. Coulter, Jr., Post 1941, 900 S. La Grange Road. The guest speaker was Michael Holub, retired police chief of La Grange.
In keeping with tradition, the ceremony was held on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year. The time and date recognizes the cessation of fighting at the end of World War I, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Treaty of Versailles that marked the official end of the war and was signed on June 28, 1919. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect.

Following the ceremony, Vet Connect was held in conjunction with the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce. The event connected veterans with information on such topics as how to start a business, find a job and access health and human services and other wellness programs.
Vet Connect was intended to help veterans with finding resources and employment, said Gigi Callaway, former commander of Post 1941.
