
Veterans organizations and other groups have planned ceremonies and other events to honor those who have served in the military in La Grange and Western Springs.
American Legion Post 1941 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Robert E. Coulter, Jr., Post 1941, 900 S. La Grange Road.
Following the ceremony, Vet Connect will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., in conjunction with the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce. The event seeks to connect veterans with information on such topics as how to start a business, find a job and access health and human services and other wellness programs.
“It will help the with finding resources and employment,” said Gigi Callaway, former commander of Post 1941.
Opening remarks will be made Ann Rondeau, a retired vice admiral of the U.S. Navy and president of the College of DuPage.
The Western Spring Senior Center and Home Helpers is teaming up to provide a free lunch to local veterans. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Center, 4211 Grand Ave. Any veteran from any branch of the military is invited. Call 708- 246-3299 to reserve a spot.
The La Grange post also will hold a pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 13, at the hall on La Grange Road. They will serve pancakes and sausage and a choice of coffee, orange juice, tea or milk for $6 (children 4 – 12 are $4 and those 3 and under eat free).
