The Gary Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office are asking the public’s help in identifying a man found shot to death Saturday morning.

The man’s body was found at about 7:20 a.m. laying in debris between an abandoned house and its garage in the 500 block of West 39th Avenue, Gary police spokeswoman Lt. Dawn Westerfield said in a new release.

The Lake County Coroner’s office pronounced the man dead at the scene but officials have been unable to identify him, Westerfield said.

The man was wearing gray Levis Strauss jeans, size 32/34; a dark gray, zip-up Chicago Blackhawks hoodie, size XL; a black-and-white T-shirt, size medium, with the words “Hustle first Question later” on it; and white Fila tennis shoes, size 9 1/2.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the man’s identity is asked to contact detective Kristopher Adams of the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit at 219-755-3855 or the crime tip line at 866-CRIME-GP.
