
Marion Giles, a resident of Plymouth Place Senior Living in La Grange Park, was born Oct. 21, 1916 and recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I was born and raised in Berwyn. Then I lived in Wayne, Illinois.
Q: What was your job?
A: I worked in different offices.
Q: Were you married?
A: I was married to John Giles for 35 years.
Q: How does it feel to celebrate your 100th birthday?
A: It’s overwhelming. I just received two wonderful birthday cards. It’s hard to believe that people remember me.
Q: What have you enjoyed doing in your life?
A: I love to travel. I’ve traveled and done what I love to do. My favorite trip was a safari to Kenya and also a trip to China. I enjoyed everything. I had a good marriage, too.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I am an avid gardener. And I’m a member of the Brookfield Zoo and of the Morton Arboretum.
Q: How are you celebrating your birthday?
A: I’m having a party tonight and the zoo is bringing some animals to it. I don’t know what kind. I had a wallaby named after me at the zoo for my 99th birthday. And then I have a party for family tomorrow.
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: I wear a lot of purple.
Q: What’s your favorite TV show?
A: I only watch TV for the news now.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Fried shrimp
Q: Do you still drive?
A: I recently renewed my driver’s license. I could’ve told (the tester) how to do it because I’ve been doing it so long.
Q: What’s your pet peeve?
A: People who don’t say hello.
Q: What are your words of wisdom?
A: Just be happy.
