
Three men were killed and at least five others have been wounded in shootings since Sunday morning across the city.
Just before 3:35 a.m. Monday, a man was killed and another man injured in a South Austin shooting. They were in the 100 block of North Central Avenue when a 32-year-old man was shot in the head and a 26-year-old man was shot in the neck, chest and jaw.
The 32-year-old, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Samuel Michael Rockett, was pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m. and the younger man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
An autopsy Tuesday determined Rockett, of 100 block of Bellwood Avenue in Bellwood, died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Information about the circumstances of the shooting was not immediately available.
About 7:40 a.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man was killed and another man was wounded in an attack near the CTA‘s California Pink Line station.
Police were called to the 2000 block of South California Avenue in Little Village for reports of a fight in the area. Responding officers found two gunshot victims.

The 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 24-year-old man who had been shot in the buttocks was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The surviving victim’s condition has stabilized, police said.
While the altercation occurred outside the CTA station, no pedestrian traffic was being allowed into the station Sunday morning, and trains were bypassing the California stop.
Later, about 4:05 p.m. Sunday, a 28-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2100 block of South Homan Avenue in Lawndale, according to police.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, the Cook County medical examiner’s office determined following an autopsy.
The man was later identified as Lazerrick Ratliff, of the 5000 block of West West End Avenue, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said Oct. 5.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened 2:30 a.m. Monday. A 38-year-old man was walking in the 5200 block of West Augusta Boulevard when someone approached and announced a robbery. The man shoved the would-be robber and ran away, at which point the attacker fired shots, hitting him in the foot. He went to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, and his condition was stabilized.
About 6:25 p.m. Sunday on the Far South Side, a 24-year-old man was shot in his lower left leg in the 2400 block of East 102nd Street in the South Deering neighborhood. He’d been walking on a sidewalk when someone in a white vehicle driving past fired shots. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and his condition has stabilized.
About 11 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. He was outside in the 5900 block of South Maplewood Avenue when someone inside a gray or silver vehicle fired shots and hit him in both legs. He got himself to Holy Cross Hospital but was moved to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition has stabilized.
