In an effort to raise more money for programs and equipment, the Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation is starting an Oktoberfest celebration.
“We’ve been talking about this for a year,” said Rick Amos, a board member of the group who is coordinating the fest.
The organization already organizes a golf tournament and July 4 fireworks during the summer and the annual city tree lighting in December.
“The logical choice was something in the fall,” Amos said.
Oktoberfest will run from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Deerpath Community Park, 400 Hastings Road. Admission is $10. The event will offer German food, several bands, a beer garden and games. A large tent will shelter the event if it rains.
