Almost three months after a south suburban home invasion ended with a shootout, a Harvey man has been charged with attempted murder.
In the middle of the night on June 29, Kenief Bryant, 19, and another man allegedly climbed through the window of a Dolton home, according to Cook County prosecutors. It was around 1:30 a.m., and a woman was in the house along with her two daughters, who were sleeping in the living room. Cloaked in hoodies and brandishing handguns, prosecutors said, Bryant and the other man confronted the woman and ordered her to lay facedown on a mattress.
When a dog started barking, a man, who was outside playing dice, came in to check on the family. He entered the home with his gun drawn, and when he was met by the intruders, a gunfight broke out. The victim was shot 10 times, according to prosecutors. He survived but has since lost the use of his left arm.
Police — who recovered a 9 mm handgun in a neighbor’s yard — have already made one arrest in the case. On Friday, an FBI fugitive task force apprehended Bryant. Local authorities have charged him with home invasion and two counts of attempted murder.
“You are a dangerous individual,” Cook County Circuit Court Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. told Bryant in court Sunday as he denied bail. Bryant is due to reappear in court Tuesday.
