A man found not guilty in the 2006 killing of a postal worker died this week after being shot while leaving a home in the West Town neighborhood in late August, according to officials and court records.

Marvin Keyes, 33, was pronounced dead at 7:07 p.m. Thursday at Stroger Hospital following the shooting in the 100 block of North Hoyne Avenue on Aug. 27, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He died from complications from suffering multiple gunshot wounds, the office determined following an autopsy Saturday.

Keyes was shot about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 while he was leaving a home near Hoyne and Maypole, according to police. Someone got out of a silver car and opened fire, hitting Keyes in the head, arm and both legs, police said. He was taken to Stroger, initially in critical condition.

Keyes had turned 33 the day before he was shot, according to public records.

Court and police records show no one has been charged in Keyes’ shooting.

Keyes, of the 3600 block of West Douglas Boulevard, was found not guilty in April 2009 of the Dec. 14, 2006, killing of Suzette Coleman, 44. Prosecutors had alleged Coleman died after she was caught in the crossfire of a shootout between Keyes and another man outside her home in the 1300 block of South Millard Avenue.

After a hung jury in January 2009, Keyes was found not guilty of murder in April 2009. But he pled guilty in a separate shooting that took place earlier Dec. 14, 2006, on his own block on Douglas, and was given six years in prison, although he was credited with substantial time served. Court records show no arrests or convictions for Keyes since that time.
