A Southwest Side man has been charged with killing a man who collapsed on his own front porch after being shot nearby in the Homan Square neighborhood last month, authorities said.
Francisco Saldana, 18, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail on a first-degree murder charge in the killing early Aug. 21 of Jesus Valois, 24, in the 3700 block of West Grenshaw Street, according to prosecutors and police.
Police responded to a call of a person shot about 12:05 a.m. Aug. 21 and found Valois on his porch with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said at the time.
Valois told investigators he had been shot nearby and walked back to his home to tell his family he had been wounded, police said at the time. Valois was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 21.
Saldana, of the 5300 block of South Maplewood Avenue, appeared Friday before Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil and was due back in court Oct. 12.
