Every so often, you knock in a 30-footer. Or roll three consecutive strikes.
Last week I went 8-1 against the spread. The one I missed was Wyoming plus 24.5 at Nebraska — and that was a seven-point game entering the fourth quarter.
On to Week 3. As Sammy Sosa used to say: “Let’s hope to keep it continue.”
Please note: Selections are in bold. Games featuring FCS teams are not listed. And the lines, taken from Pregame.com at noon Thursday, might have shifted.
Temple (plus 9) at Penn State: The Nittany Lions showed heart by rallying from three touchdowns down to nearly upend Pitt. But nine points’ worth of heart against an in-state rival? I don’t see it. Take Temple.

New Mexico (plus 5.5) at Rutgers: Bob Davie’s Lobos are all banged-up after a one-point loss to New Mexico State, so roll with homies, Rutgers.
Georgia State (plus 35.5) at Wisconsin: Georgia State yielded 464 rushing yards last week to Air Force but at least it took 83 carries. If you must make a play, take all those points.
Colorado (plus 20.5) at Michigan: The Buffaloes scored with a fake depth chart (Manute Bol will be backing up Olive Oil at ‘Z’ receiver) meant to tweak the ultra-secretive Jim Harbaugh. But they won’t score enough to cover. Take the Wolverines.
Oregon (plus 3) at Nebraska: I cannot pick against Nebraska three weeks in a row. Mike Riley is too darn nice.
Western Michigan (minus 3.5) at Illinois: Illinois is vulnerable in the secondary, and the Broncos can fling it.
Maryland (minus 9) at UCF: I’ll pick the lippy Scott Frost and his Knights, catching more than a TD at home.
Michigan State (plus 7.5) at Notre Dame: If you jumped on the Irish when the line opened at 6, congrats. If you have Notre Dame minus 6 AND Michigan State plus 7.5, you’re a genius. At this number, I’ll take the lumber.
Ohio State (minus 2) at Oklahoma: So Oklahoma backup QB Austin Kendall thinks Ohio State’s defense is “really basic” and that starter Baker Mayfield will “light them up.” I think the Buckeyes will turn that trash talk into trash.
Duke (plus 4) at Northwestern: The betting public jacked this line up from 1 to 4? How bad must Duke be? Still, I’ll take the underdog.
Last week: 8-1. Season: 11-6.
