The attorney for a man charged with a 2014 shooting death in Round Lake Beach has requested a new psychological evaluation despite him recently being found fit after nearly a year in an Elgin mental health facility.

Jeremy Anderson, 38, of Chicago Heights, was charged with first-degree murder in late 2014 for the alleged shooting of a man who had been dating his sister.

His attorney, Randie Bruno, said after a Tuesday hearing that since Anderson’s return to Lake County, she has noticed a decline in his attentiveness and behavior compared to discussions she had with him when he was in Elgin.

“He laughs at inappropriate times. I think that he’s not where he needs to be,” Bruno said.

Judge Mark Levitt on Tuesday approved a local fitness evaluation for Anderson in Lake County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $3 million bail. Levitt set a next court date for Sept. 12.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jim Newman said because Anderson is charged with personally discharging the firearm that killed 31-year-old David Robinson, Anderson faces a mandatory sentence of 45 years to life in prison if convicted.

Robinson was found unresponsive about 9:15 p.m. Nov. 8, 2014, in the 1400 block of Idlewild Drive, according to Round Lake Beach police. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

Newman said Robinson, who died of multiple gunshot wounds, had been dating Anderson’s sister.

After the shooting, a manhunt was conducted for Anderson, who allegedly fled the scene. He was eventually taken into custody in Gary, Ind., and was returned to Illinois after waiving extradition.

Anderson was sent to a secure facility in Elgin for a mental-health evaluation last summer and returned to Lake County this month after being found fit to stand trial.
