The trial of a man charged with a 2014 fatal shooting inside an Aurora restaurant is scheduled to start Monday.
Dimitri Hosey-Green, 21, of Joliet, is accused of shooting Arin Williams in the head during what authorities have called a drug rip-off murder inside the now closed La Torta Restaurant on Lake Street. He has pleaded not guilty to murder and has been in Kendall County Jail since shortly after the shooting.
Prosecutors allege Hosey-Green and his brother, Jaquan Hosey-Green, arranged to buy marijuana from Williams with the intention of robbing him. Court records, which indicate Jaquan is likely to testify against his brother, describe Jaquan as grabbing the drugs from Williams and starting to run out of the restaurant when he heard a loud noise. He turned to see Williams on the floor bleeding, according to court documents.
Jaquan pleaded guilty to murder and armed robbery earlier this year. His agreement with prosecutors does not come with a sentencing recommendation but does require him to testify truthfully at future court hearings. It does not specifically mention him testifying at his brother’s trial, court records show.
Dimitri Hosey-Green’s attorney recently filed a motion stating his client plans to claim self-defense in the shooting.
A search warrant affidavit filed by investigators described an emotional Hosey-Green telling his mother he loved her and that he “(expletive) up” in a phone call after the shooting. He dumped the gun in the Fox River and then went to his sister’s apartment where he “cut his hair and rinsed his body with bleach to (get) rid of any gunshot residue,” the affidavit states.
The trial is expected to be heard by a jury.
