A man was killed and at least nine other people were wounded in shootings Wednesday in Chicago, police said.

The fatal shooting happened shortly before 11 a.m. in the 5700 block of South Emerald Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.

According to preliminary reports, 28-year-old Travis Allen was sitting in a car when someone opened fire. He got out, ran and was shot several times. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Trainor said. The shooter fled east toward Union Avenue.

Other shootings:

* Around midnight on the Far South Side, two people were shot in the Longwood Manor neighborhood. They were in a car in the 1000 block of West 97th Street when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside started shooting. A 20-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition. An 18-year-old man was grazed in the abdomen and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital.

* About 10:40 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. He went to Loretto Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and told investigators he had been shot while exiting a van in the 4500 block of West Maypole Street. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

* About 7:05 p.m. in the 400 block of East 79th Street in the city’s Chatham neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was standing in the street when two vehicles drove past and someone inside one fired shots, hitting the man, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman. He was shot in his arms, leg, abdomen and buttocks. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition has stabilized, Tannehill said.

* About 4:45 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was outside in the 8000 block of South Avalon Avenue when a van pulled up and someone inside began firing at the boy, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. Shot in the back, foot, arm and abdomen, the boy was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Sweeney said.

* Shortly after 3 p.m. on the West Side, a 21-year-old man was shot in the 700 block of North Lotus Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, Sweeney said. The victim was standing outside when he was shot. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized, Sweeney said.

* About 2:45 p.m. on the Far South Side, a 21-year-old man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood, Sweeney said. That shooting happened in the 12000 block of South Normal Avenue. The victim suffered a graze wound to the chest and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital.

* About 11 a.m. on the South Side, a 33-year-old man was shot in the Washington Park neighborhood. He was in the 5900 block of South King Drive when someone shot him in the back and arm. He went to Stroger Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.

* About 7:15 a.m., a man was shot in the Little Village neighborhood, police said. The 42-year-old was in the 2900 block of West 25th Place when someone in a passing car fired shots, hitting him in the back. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.

No one was in custody in the shootings.
