This fall, we are asked to identify individuals who will represent us in the Illinois Senate. One of the candidates for that position is Mel Thillens of Park Ridge. Thillens has served on the Park Ridge Park District Board.

During a public meeting in 2015, Thillens, then the park board president, recommended to the board that the park district name one of its bathrooms after Hillary Clinton, the former first lady, U.S. senator, secretary of state and Democratic presidential candidate. During this formal meeting, another board member, Rick Biagi, added that the restrooms could have a urinal with Clinton’s name on it.

Whether these elected individuals dislike Hillary Clinton or not, it appears they cannot put the image of Park Ridge ahead of their own sophomoric comments at a public Park Board meeting. The people of Park Ridge deserve better from our elected representatives. Please keep this in mind when you vote for our state senator.
