Antonio Isais became the third man to be sent to prison in a 2014 shooting in Aurora that started as a supposed drug buy.

Isais, 20, of Aurora, pleaded guilty to armed robbery earlier this year and was sentenced recently by Kane County Judge Linda Abrahamson to four years in prison. An attempted murder count remains open against Isais, according to court records. Isais was given credit for 601 days spent in Kane County Jail since his arrest.

Authorities said Isais was part of one of two groups planning to rob each other during what was staged as a marijuana deal on Aurora’s West Side.

A total of five men — Isais, Jordy Arreola, Jorge Diaz, Andres Fonseca and Patrick Maloney — were charged in the case. Isais, with the help of Fonseca and Maloney, planned to rob the seller, Arreola, of his marijuana, police said. Similarly, Arreola enlisted the help of Diaz with the idea to take cash from Isais, prosecutors and police have said.

At least one person associated with each side showed up on Coral Avenue with a gun, and a shootout resulted. Isais was shot twice in the back and has undergone medical treatment while in custody.

Arreola pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sentenced in May to six years in prison. Maloney pleaded guilty in March to one count of armed robbery and was sentenced to six years in prison. Diaz and Fonseca weren’t charged until March for their roles, with both accused of attempted murder and attempted armed robbery. The two men remain in Kane County Jail with court dates scheduled for September. Fonseca is also charged in an unrelated sex assault.
