Two women were ticketed after their car ended up in a ditch along Route 41 in Lake Forest the morning of Aug. 18.

At about 11:30 a.m., the car hit the center meridian just south of Deerpath Road and then crossed two lanes of traffic before ending up in a ditch on the west side of Route 41, said Eric Globerger, shift commander at the Lake Forest Fire Department

Lake Forest Police Commander Craig Lepkowski said the passenger, Yulia Wray, 28, had asked to be dropped off and the driver refused. Wray then grabbed the steering wheel, which caused the car to go out of control, he said.

Police cited the driver, Angela G. Saunders, 28, of the 2800 block of 31st Street, Zion, for no insurance and for having two unrestrained children in the back seat. A two-year-old was in a car seat but it wasn’t fastened down, Lepkowski said.

Wray, of the same address, was cited for reckless conduct. Both were released on their own recognizance.

Saunders complained of ankle pain, but signed a release declining medical attention, Globerger said. The two-year-old had a scrape under one eye and was transported to Lake Forest Hospital, Globerger said.
