DeKalb police continue to investigate a motorcycle crash that killed a Kingston man and left his fiancee with significant injuries.

Kingston resident Nathan Pasholk, 32, and Kathleen Brust, 29, of Kirkland, were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a friend’s wedding in Michigan earlier this month.

They were looking forward to the party planned for their son’s first birthday later this month, and their March wedding, family members said.

About 5 p.m. Aug. 6, their motorcycle collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old DeKalb woman.

Pasholk was killed in the crash in the 8800 block of Old State Road, west of Sycamore, according to the DeKalb County sheriff’s office. Brust was flown by helicopter to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. A medical examination showed multiple broken bones, a broken jaw and serious head trauma. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. She was treated at Kishwaukee Hospital in Sycamore and released, according to police.

The incident is under investigation by the DeKalb County sheriff’s office and the DeKalb County coroner’s office. No citations were issued.

Brust had been employed as the office manager of DeKalb Dental Group for seven years, family members said. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Tinamarre Brust, of Genoa.

Kathleen Brust’s father is scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 2 in Sycamore, a volunteer member of the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Sycamore Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1506.

Her mother is the office manager for Cooley Incorporated in Kirkland. Kathleen’s brother, Jonathon Brust, is the 4th Ward Alderman for the City of Genoa.

Kathleen’s grandparents, George and Barbara Brust, reside in Hampshire. Since 2005, George has served as a Hampshire village trustee and Barbara has served as a trustee at Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library. Barbara is also the library board president.

Friends at DeKalb Dental Group have set up a GoFundMe page where people can donate funds.

“The entire Brust family is devastated by the results of the accident and ask that the community keep all concerned in their prayers,” George Brust said.
