While there is no official count of Lake Forest Day attendees, event chairperson Tom Glover thinks “the crowd was huge compared to other years.”

He thinks the weather may have had something to do with it.

“Maybe “We sold so much food we almost ran out of tickets to sell more,” Glover said.

The Aug. 3 event featured a parade, carnival, bands, food and beer. It serves as the yearly fundraiser for American Legion Post 264, which uses the money for veterans, college scholarships for Lake Forest High School students and other activities.

Lake Forest Day was first started in 1908 and run by the Lake Forest Women’s Club. The American Legion Post 264 took over running the event in 1921, according to historians.
