A Waukegan man has pleaded not guilty to stealing a Taser from Mundelein police during an Explorers youth program event earlier this year.
Justice Morgan, 19, is charged with theft of government property, a felony carrying a possible prison sentence of three to seven years. If convicted, he also could be sentenced to probation or work release.
Morgan is also charged with carrying or possession of a weapon in a public place, a misdemeanor. He appeared Thursday in Lake County Circuit Court.
Assistant State’s Attorney Stella Day said Morgan allegedly stole the Taser during an Explorers meeting at the Mundelein Police Department on March 10. The weapon was found in his car during a traffic stop by Waukegan police, she said.
Morgan’s bail was set at $5,000, and he was released after posting 10 percent of that amount.
He is scheduled for a case management hearing Aug. 23, and an initial trial date of Oct. 11 has been set.
