Northern Kane Educational Corp., the management firm for Cambridge Lakes Charter School in Pingree Grove, has submitted a renewal application to Community Unit School District 300.

The charter school serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade along with preschool students.

Concerns of the district over the last 18 months regarding the charter school have included failure to serve special education students, failure to provide a legally compliant English Language Learners program, and failure to implement a legally compliant Response to Intervention Plan. There were also concerns that school district payments meant for the charter school were diverted without authority to the charter school’s preschool and adult education program.

In a letter to Anne Miller, District 300 board president, from Larry Fuhrer, Northern Kane Educational Corp. president and CEO, Fuhrer states: “Northern Kane requests that the charter for Cambridge Lakes Charter School with minimal modification be renewed to cover the five-year period of September 1, 2016, through August 31, 2021. We are providing the requisite financial information, updated the school’s performance, recapped the continuing development of blended learning and reviewed the continuing maturation of the charter school’s organization and its governance.”

The renewal application can be viewed on the district website at: www.d300.org.

The renewal application was submitted by the requested date of July 1, 2016. The District 300 board is expected to reach a decision on the renewal application within 45 days of the submittal.
