Kris Bryant described Willson Contreras’ first major league home run on the first pitch he saw Sunday night as one of the “coolest” things he’s witnessed in his young major league career.

“I think he’s going to be a superstar,” Bryant said of Contreras, who was making his first major league start for the Cubs on Monday night.

Bryant’s joy was shared by Contreras’ parents and brothers, who watched his home run in various parts of Latin America.

Contreras, 24, a native of Venezuela, said his parents were crying after watching him hit his home run on television.

“It was an unbelievable experience,” Contreras said.

Meanwhile, Contreras said he communicated with his brother William, 18, a catcher in the Braves’ organization, via FaceTime.

“I told him, ‘I’m waiting for you up here, so work hard and be yourself and stay humble,'” Contreras told his brother, who batted .314 with 32 RBIs in 49 games in the Dominican Summer League in 2015.

Contreras also spoke with older brother Willmer, who resides in Panama.

As for the two L’s in his first name and his brothers, “it’s a family thing,” Contreras said. “My mom and dad want us to be special.”

Contreras said he has yet to respond to numerous congratulatory text messages sent after his home run.
