Parents, families and friends gathered May 28 in the auditorium of Regina Dominican High School, 701 Locust Road in Wilmette, to celebrate the graduation of Regina’s Class of 2016.
The 79 graduating seniors came from Chicago and 19 other communities across the North Shore and greater Chicago area, according to Katherine Pins, the school’s director of marketing and communications.
Graduates heard from Brighid O’Shaughnessy, a 1991 Regina graduate, as well as from Kathryn Cressy, a member of the class of 2016. Outgoing Regina President Sister Mary Margaret Pachucki and Thomas Jaconetty, the chairman of Regina’s board of directors, presented graduates with their diplomas.
This year’s graduating class reflected the strength of Regina’s strong science focus, said Joan Kitchie, Regina’s vice-president of advancement. An estimated 32 percent of the Class of 2016 chose university majors in science, engineering and technology, she said on May 31. Another 15 percent chose social science majors, while 13 percent chose business majors and 11 percent chose fine arts majors. The remainder chose education or nursing majors, or did not choose a major, she said.

The Class of 2016 had 56 students with grade point averages of 4 or above, according to information from the school. On May 27, the school also presented graduates with several awards, including Regina Dominican Medals for academic excellence, service and leadership within subject areas; and athletic, leadership, spirit and service awards, among others, according to information from the school.
