A man died after the car he was in was hit by a Metra Rock Island District train on the Southwest Side near Blue Island and Calumet Park, authorities said.
Chicago fire crews responded to near 119th Street and Marshfield Avenue about 7:10 p.m. for a vehicle hit by a train and found a man in a vehicle who was declared dead on the scene, said Chief Juan Hernandez, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.
The Loop-bound train that had left Joliet about 6:15 p.m. hit the vehicle a little after 7, said Michael Gillis, a Metra spokesman.
One train was canceled and its service combined with another, and the train involved was stopped for the rescue operation and investigation. Check Metra’s website for service updates.
