The Family Youth Service Bureau willingly and lovingly serves children and families who need a little help to have a happy life together.
This year, they are offering an opportunity for youngsters ages 6 to 12 to enjoy a great camp experience. According to Jackie Gray, FYSB director, this will not be your average day camp. Rather, it will have many fun ways to increase children’s skills in various areas in therapeutic small group settings. The camp has no cost, and will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays June 13 to 24 at Forest Park Rotary Shelter, 851 Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso. That’s a two week camp for your kids to enjoy. But now is the time to call to reserve a spot for your young ones, as June 1 will be the cut-off date to register, and there is limited space.
The days will be filled with activities, games, crafts, to increase social skills, learn coping skills, and lots of interaction with peers. Extra added attractions are field trips on Fridays, which are always something special. When you register your children for the camp, you will then be asked to meet with a clinical staff member for no more than thirty minutes to share their strengths and needs so that those needs can be met during the camp fun. It sure sounds like a perfect two week camp, and the cost is perfect too!
Of course such things as the camp and many of the other offerings from the FYSB means the agency is in need of raising funds to cover costs. The more fun they can put into fundraisers, the better.
The hope is for a sunny day June 11 when the fourth annual “Chalk the Walk” will take place. The event will surround the Porter County Courthouse in downtown Valpo. More than 100 3×3 foot squares will have artists ranging in age from 2 to 90 creating their masterpieces. Registration is necessary to be involved in this art day and is with Gray at 219-464-9585 or [email protected]

Almost all of us rely on our cell phones, whether constantly or for emergencies. There are some things that some us don’t know. Did you know that in an emergency, if you dial 112, the network will find you? Secondly, your device has hidden battery power. Just press *3370#. You can restart with that reserve power, which will replace itself when you charge your cell phone. Also, did you know there is a free directory for cell phone. If you dial 411 for information, there is charge? However, no charges will be incurred if you dial 800-373-3411. This act of kindness is sponsored by McDonalds. So give someone a call and I hope that you have a great day because you deserve it. Thanks for reading. Fly your flag.
