“I started working as the village clerk in 2001,” Vasquez said. “It was much slower and quieter at that time than it is now. The town has expanded from 2,234 residents in 2001 to over 6,000. It’s amazing how the village has grown.”
Vasquez has worked under two village presidents. Former Village President William Schmidt served from 1985 to 2005. Current Village President Jeffrey Magnussen has been in office since 2005.
Born in Chicago, Vasquez moved to Streamwood when she was five years old.
“I know a lot of former Streamwood residents who moved to Hampshire,” Vasquez said.
Vasquez became a Hampshire resident in 1996. Her daughter, Sophia Kamran, was a student at Hampshire High School before she enrolled at the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy in Aurora. She graduated from Harvard Medical School in Boston in 2013 and is currently fulfilling two years of residency at Harvard Medical in the field of radiation oncology.
Vasquez said she enjoys the variety while working as Hampshire’s village clerk.
“Every day is different,” Vasquez said. “There is never a dull moment. I work with a wonderful staff along with a great village president and trustees.”
In celebration of Municipal Clerks Week, Vasquez has been bringing a different treat every day to the village hall to share with the community. Treats have included peanut butter squares, coffee and donut holes from Dunkin’ Donuts in Hampshire, and “Casey’s Chow” from Casey’s General Store, also in Hampshire.
