Wilmette Fire Chief Mike McGreal said Tuesday that firefighters were called to the intersection of Lake Avenue and 7th Street at 5:45 p.m. on May 2, where they found the 53-year-old woman trapped inside her vehicle.
McGreal said the woman’s vehicle had been broadsided on the driver’s side by a pickup truck. He said the woman was wearing a seatbelt when she was hit.
“She was semi-conscious in the vehicle,” he said. “We used the spreaders to take the doors off and get her out, then we transported her to Evanston.”
Wilmette Deputy Police Chief Kyle Perkins said Monday the victim was transported with non-life threatening injuries.
Perkins said the victim was heading east on Lake Avenue when the other vehicle, heading south on 7th Street, collided with hers in the intersection.
McGreal said firefighters took about 10 minutes to extricate her, and crews were on the scene a little more than half an hour.
The victim was alone in her vehicle, McGreal said. The driver of the truck, another woman, signed a release on the scene and was not treated, he said.
Perkins said the crash investigation is continuing.
