Dear Paul Sassone,

Regarding your recent column, “The case against higher minimum wage doesn’t add up,” I find it sad that so many people who never owned or ran a business for a single day, tell other people how to run a business.

I would like for you to start a business next Monday. Start that gift shop or dry cleaning store you always wanted to open. Run out to the nearest unemployment line, pull a couple people out of the line and tell them you’ll pay them $15 an hour to start. That would be about $31,000 per year per person, even though you have yet to make one sale in your business.

Now, you have your rent, your utilities, your business insurance, your vendors, your legal and accounting fees, the health insurance you’re unquestionably going to pay for them, their two-week vacation, their paid sick leave and also pay all the federal, state and local taxes (regulations). Then, with what’s left over, pay yourself!

But why stop at $15 an hour? Why are you so cheap? And, why are those people only asking for $15 an hour? Are they shortchanging themselves? Do they not think more highly of themselves to only ask for $15? I say pay them $25 or $50 an hour.

Why the arbitrary amount of $15?

If you can reason that “if workers were paid nothing, there would be jobs for everyone,” I can reason that paying someone $25 or $50 an hour, no matter what he/she is worth, would be for the worker’s own good. So, go ahead, start that business.

The “logic” of the left never ceases to amaze me!
