
A man was killed and at least 16 people, including two 16-year-old boys, were wounded in shootings on the West and South sides since Thursday morning, police said.
A 53-year-old man died after getting shot about 8:15 p.m. in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side, according to authorities.
Kenneth Allen, of the 1000 block of North Merrimac Avenue, was walking in the 1600 block of North Luna Avenue when he heard shots and was struck, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Allen was hit in the abdomen, and he was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:17 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Most recently, a 16-year-old boy was wounded in a drive-by shooting about 11:10 p.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.
The boy was standing on the sidewalk on the 6300 block of South Wolcott Avenue when a male attacker in a passing vehicle fired shots, Alfaro said.
The boy was shot in the leg, and he was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
About 10:45 p.m., two men were critically hurt and a woman was wounded in a shooting near a BP gas station in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.
The three were traveling in a vehicle in the 7600 block of South South Chicago Avenue when a male attacker fired shots from another vehicle, Alfaro said.
A 23-year-old man was shot in the back of the neck, and a 27-year-old man was also struck in the neck. Both men were taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Alfaro said.
The woman, 21, was grazed in the right arm, and she was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
At the scene of the shooting, police officers cordoned off the BP gas station and its parking lot with red and yellow tape.
A silver Ford Focus stood with a smashed front near a gas pump. The car had bullet holes on its right side. The rear right passenger window was shattered as well as the car’s rear window.
The outside of the gas station’s store appeared to be damaged. The black beams supporting the store’s awning were crooked, and bricks and other debris lay scattered nearby.
Police officers found at least two shell casings at the intersection of 76th and South Chicago and blocked that area off, too, with red crime tape.
About 9:55 p.m., a 23-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the Far South Side, Alfaro said.
The man was in a parked vehicle in the 9700 block of South Sangamon Street when a male attacker in a black sedan fired shots at him, Alfaro said.
He was shot in the neck and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Alfaro said.
About 9:40 p.m., a 25-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The man was sitting on the rear porch of a residence in the 1500 block of East 66th Place when he heard gunshots and was struck, Alfaro said.
He was hit in the right leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was stabilized, Alfaro said.
About 9:15 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.
The boy was walking in an alley in the 7800 block of South Michigan Avenue when a male attacker in a blue SUV fired shots at him, Alfaro said.
The boy was hit in the left arm, and he was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
About 8:25 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the 5100 block of West West End Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Alfaro said.
The man was on the sidewalk when several male attackers walked up to him and at least one of them fired at him, Alfaro said.
He was shot in the right calf, and he was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
Two people were shot about 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 75th Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.
A 30-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with an abdominal wound, and a 24-year-old was shot in the buttocks and arm and taken to Stroger Hospital. They were walking into a home when someone in a light-colored van fired shots and fled, police said.
A 36-year-old man was shot about 4:50 p.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with an inner thigh wound from the shooting, which happened in the 1300 block of West 51st Street. Additional details weren’t available.
About the same time, someone shot a 20-year-old man in the Bridgeport neighborhood. The man was grazed in the shooting, which happened in the 200 block of West 31st Street. Additional details weren’t immediately available.
A 23-year-old man suffered a graze wound in a shooting in the 5500 block of West Parker Avenue about 3:15 p.m., police said. The man was standing in front of his house when two people approached on bikes. One took out a gun from a backpack and began shooting, police said. The man was grazed on the wrist, treated on the scene and released in good condition.
A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were shot about 11:20 a.m. in the 2500 block of West 24th Place in South Lawndale, police said. The 19-year-old was shot in his leg, and the 17-year-old was shot in his arm. They went to Mount Sinai Hospital and were stabilized.
Earlier, in South Austin, a 45-year-old man was shot in the arm. He was driving in the 1100 block of North LeClaire Avenue about 8:40 a.m. when he heard shots and was struck, according to the Chicago Police Department. The man went to West Suburban Hospital and was stable, police said.
No one was in custody as a result of the shootings.
