The following items were discussed and/or action was taken at the village of Lincolnwood Board of Trustees meeting on April 5.

Tree-planting ceremony planned to mark Arbor Day

Keeping in line with an annual tradition to commemorate Arbor Day, the Lincolnwood Public Works Department will hold a tree-planting event at Rossi Park, 7025 Keystone Ave., at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13.

The public is invited to join local officials and members of the Lincolnwood Beatification Committee at the ceremony. Each year a different tree species is planted. This year a Chanticleer Pear tree was chosen, according to the public works department.

Village to purchase new police cruiser

A police squad car that was totaled in an accident in February will be replaced with a 2016 Ford Utility Police Interceptor vehicle the village will purchase for $28,297.

The squad car, a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria, was hit on Feb. 4 by a motorist who violated a red light while traveling southbound on Crawford Avenue near Pratt Avenue. The vehicle struck the driver’s side of the officer’s squad car, according to the village.

The Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency, the village’s insurer, declared the vehicle a total loss and will reimburse the village for up to $8,000 toward the purchase of a new police car, according to the village.

The village bought three new police cruisers last year for $81,617, according to information from the village.

Trustees approved the purchase the new car during the April 5 Village Board meeting from Currie Motors of Frankfort, Ill.

New member appointed to Police Pension Board

Michael Bartholomew has been appointed to Lincolnwood’s Police Pension Board following the retirement of Marilyn Marwedel, who recently retired. Marwedel volunteered for the five-member board for more than two decades, according to Lincolnwood Police Chief Bob LaMantia.

The Pension Board is a governing body that administers benefits to retired and disabled police officers.

Village seeking nominations for volunteerism award

Applications are being accepted for the Madeleine Grant Volunteer of the Year Award, an annual designation to honor the memory of the late former Lincolnwood mayor who was known for her volunteerism.

Nominees should have made a contribution to the community, and must be sponsored by two unrelated people who either reside or work in the village.

A recognition committee will review the nominations, and the recipient will be announced at the June 21 Village Board meeting. A plaque displaying the winners’ names is kept in Village Hall.

Applications are available online at lincolnwoodil.org or at Village Hall. All submissions are due by Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Next Village Board meeting scheduled

The next Lincolnwood Village Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 6900 N. Lincoln Ave.
