The last of four men arrested in a scheme to squat in and illegally rent out expensive, foreclosed homes in the Beverly area pled guilty Tuesday in connection with the scheme, according to prosecutors and court records.
Arshad Thomas, 27, pled guilty to burglary before Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughn in connection with a building in the 1600 block of West 106th Street in the East Beverly neighborhood, according to a news release from prosecutors. Gaughn sentenced him to 45 months in prison.
Thomas was charged last year along with his father, Raymond Trible, David Farr and Torrez Moore with illegally taking possession of 14 vacant homes in Chicago, including eight in the 19th Ward, then living in the houses as well as renting them to others.
The four were accused of claiming they owned foreclosed or vacant properties, then either moving into them themselves or renting them out.
Thomas was the last man arrested in connection with the scheme. The others are still awaiting trial.
