The La Grange Public Library has received nine applications from residents to fill a vacancy on its board of trustees.
Library Board member Reid Carlberg is moving to Denver and is resigning from the board, effective April 30. He has served on the board for one year.
Board members represent the community and its library needs, represent the library to the general public, help hire and evaluate the library director, create a long-range plan for the library, oversee library funds and approve the annual budget, support the staff and director in carrying out library programs, and attend monthly meetings and occasional committee meetings.
A new board member will be expected to take part in the creation of a new long-range plan for the library. Putting together a new plan will involve gathering input from the community and studying census information, demographics and information about how the community uses the library.
This will be the third time that the library has done a strategic plan, which covers goals for all aspects of how the library operates.
The Library Board was expected to meet March 15 to review the nine applications, and choose three to four finalists that it will interview for the position.
