The Queen of Bounce won’t let a little trouble down South stop her from bringing down the house at Boystown club Seven this Friday night.

Last Friday, Big Freedia, who recently received attention for her appearance on Beyonce’s “Formation,” had a show in Mississippi canceled under threat of government interference. The state’s Alcohol Beverage Control office said they felt the show would encourage gyrating that’s illegal in a place that serves alcohol in that state.

But the show in Chicago will go on. According to Sean Kotwa, managing partner at Seven, Big Freedia is still set to perform a sold-out show on Friday night. And, yes, there will be gyrating.

“Honestly, that sounds like someone overstepping their bounds to cancel that show,” Kotwa said about the Mississippi mishap.

Freedia, who has been credited with popularizing bounce music (a form of hip-hop that originated in her home city of New Orleans), headlined Chicago’s Pride Fest in 2015, among other local appearances. So it’s unlikely there’d be an issue in her performing here again.

“It’s a part of the show for her fans to get on stage and dance with her,” Kotwa said. “And we’re excited to be able to gyrate all night long.”
