An Oak Lawn man cleared of trying to pay his municipal water bill with counterfeit money was charged with possession of a controlled substance after Oak Lawn police said they discovered eight grams of what they believe to be heroin in his pocket.

Police reportedly detained Christopher P. O’Donnell, 37, of the 9600 block of Merton Avenue, on Jan. 22 after he aroused suspicions by tendering seven old and brittle $20 bills at Village Hall.

Police said they discovered the alleged heroin, in several small plastic bags, and a small straw in his pants during a security pat-down while confirming the currency’s legitimacy.
