A 17-year-old boy was killed and four others were hospitalized Friday night following a multiple-vehicle crash on U.S. 45 in Palos Park.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the deceased as Christian Luna, of the 2400 block of South California Avenue in Chicago. Palos Park police said he died at the scene.

Two others injured in the crash are in serious condition, police said. The victims were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights.

“Nothing we saw initially indicated any kind of impairment,” Palos Park police Chief Joe Miller said.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:10 p.m. Friday in the 12500 block of U.S. 45, police said. A portion of the road was closed for about six hours so police could process the scene.

Luna was driving north on U.S. 45 when he entered the southbound lane and collided with another vehicle, Miller said. Luna’s passenger remains in intensive care, he said.

Cook County Sheriff’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team and evidence technicians assisted Palos Park police in investigating the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
