Lane Tech High School has been declared safe to occupy after a bomb threat Thursday evening prompted an evacuation, officials said.

Police were called to the school, 2501 W. Addison St., at 5:24 p.m., said a Chicago police spokesman, who said police News Affairs had no other details.

The school “was immediately evacuated after a bomb threat was directed to the school,” said Chicago Public Schools spokesman Michael Passman, in an emailed statement.

Just after 10 p.m., Passman confirmed via email that the threat was unfounded and the building was declared safe after law enforcement officials conducted a sweep.

Classes will be held Friday, and CPS will provide extra security.
