HEALTH CARE MEETING: State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, will host a free Health Care Advisory Committee meeting to spur a healthy debate on labeling GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and the need for vaccinations from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Cancer Resource Center at Advocate Condell Hospital, 801 S. Residents will have the opportunity to come together for an open debate on the labeling of GMOs and the mandates for vaccinations, access current legislation and the effects it will have on the community, and brainstorm ideas for future legislation. FUNDRAISER: Cory’s Project is a non-profit organization that assists children and their families battling cancer at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis. It was started after Dale and Michele Batz, lost their only child, Cory Batz to t-cell lymphoma at the age of 16 on July 31, 2012. Cory’s Project continues to grow from all the love and support from the Winthrop Harbor, Beach Park and Zion communities, and supporters in other states. “We been truly blessed this year in our annual December toy/donations drive, that exceeded our expectations,” said Batz. “Cory’s Project has grown so much, that the organization gives cash cards/gas cards twice a month throughout the calendar year.” One parent will stay with the child that is battling for their lives and that salary in the family is gone.
