Lake County

Moratorium: The Lake County Sheriff’s office announced a moratorium on all evictions through Jan. 3, 2016. “Lots of folks are still struggling in Lake County and there’s no need to add to their suffering with an eviction during the holidays,” Sheriff Mark Curran said. Waukegan

Free for all: Waukegan Park District residents can visit the Field House Sports and Fitness Center, 800 Baldwin Ave., for free during the following holiday dates and times: From noon to 9 p.m. Dec. 21-23, 28-30; and from noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2-3. Residents can experience the facility’s amenities including the gymnasium, climbing wall and more. Children 11 and under must be accompanied by a parent within the facility (excluding Fitness Center). The Fitness Center is available to ages 16 and older. Must have photo ID for entry. Gurnee

Funds distributed: The proceeds from the 22nd annual Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot were recently distributed to this year’s recipients. The check distribution event was held at the Gurnee Police Department. The Gurnee Turkey Trot had about 575 registered participants for the annual 5k run/walk fundraiser. A total of $13,400 in net proceeds was raised. Those funds were distributed to four local organizations. Representatives from the Gurnee Turkey Trot Committee were on hand to hand out checks, including Mike and Kim Callaghan, Jon’s parents. Checks were distributed to the Gurnee Community Church Youth Missions Program, Gurnee School District 56 Special Needs Program, Warren Township Food Pantry, and the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.
